Sir Richie Richardson 62nd Birthday

He is famous for his wide-brimmed maroon hat, which he wore most of the time, and he didn't wear a helmet even against the fast bowlers until the twilight of his career. He’s from Antigua, the same country where Sir Viv was from. With a similar last name and walking style, he was compared to Sir Viv during the early days of his career.

He made his debut in 1983 under the leadership of legendary captain Clive Lloyd and became a permanent member of a dominant West Indies team. Known as a brilliant stroke player, he was a specialist against fast bowling. After Sir Viv, he took over the captaincy of the West Indies team in 1992. Under his captaincy, the only Test series the West Indies lost was against Australia in 1995. That was also the only Test series the West Indies lost during the period of 1980–1995.

He went on to captain his team until the 1996 World Cup, and with the semi-final exit, he announced his retirement from the game. He later went on to form a reggae band with his fellow teammate Sir Curlty Ambrose called "Big Bad Dread & the Baldhead." Years down the road, he joined the administration and went on to become a match referee as well.

Here's wishing a very happy 62nd birthday to former West Indies captain and batsman Sir Richie Richardson.
